ABOUT
Design for San Diego (D4SD) is a civic design challenge initiated by the UC San Diego Design Lab, a space to address our region’s most pressing challenges. This year’s challenge focuses on the housing crisis, a critical issue that has long affected all San Diego residents’ well-being and quality of life. D4SD invites your ideas to make San Diego a more equitable home for all of our neighbors. OUR GOALS
The D4SD Challenge is unlike any other. We seek to motivate citizens to think creatively and come up with solutions that address the housing crisis in San Diego. Our goals are:
Connect
To connect innovators, experts, city officials, professional designers, business leaders, and community members through a combination of in-person events and online activities.
Increase
To increase and diversify participation, particularly for typically underrepresented or marginalized populations, by creating a range of specific roles while striving for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Empower
To empower the agency of bottom-up community initiatives and enhance communication between the community and city.
Contribute
To contribute to the burgeoning design-driven economy in San Diego by providing resources to help launch top proposals by bringing together leaders from various sectors.
Provide
To provide an educational opportunity that serves people from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and motivations.
Collaborate
To collaborate and explore a range of civic problems that the San Diego region faces.
